As a journalists I received hundreds of books and records (yes, they were mostly records in those day), concert tickets, gadgets and holidays, which I regarded as being part and parcel of doing my job. Sometimes I was thrilled, often not. Sometimes I wrote reviews, sometimes the stuff went straight into the bin or was passed on to friends and family, usually with no acknowledgement to the PR who sent it.
Today is definitely the first time I have ever thought about writing about opening a package containing something I may or may not like/ use/ review.
Which is an interesting lesson in itself. It appears that I don't regard myself as a journalist when I blog and I am applying a distinct set of rules, and working towards different norms and conventions, some of which I haven't really thought about.
Excuse me while I try and work out how to set up my 02 Cocoon phone. My first observation is that the instructions and manual clearly weren't made for someone with middle-aged eyesight. It remains to be seen if I ever work out how to charge the battery....
